Chennai defeat Hyderabad, keep their playoff hopes alive

Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu shared an 81-run stand as Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs in the Indian Premier League last night.

Batting after winning the toss at the Dubai International Cricket Ground, Chennai lost six wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored 167 runs. Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni used seven bowlers to defend the target of 167 runs. Hyderabad lost 8 wickets and managed to score only 147 runs.

With the win, Chennai has now 6 points from 8 games. Hyderabad also has 6 points from 8 games. Hyderabad is fifth and Chennai is sixth in the points table.

Hyderabad's Kane Williamson (57), Jonny Bairstow (16), Priyam Garg (16), Rashid Khan (14) and Vijay Shankar (12) were the only batsmen to score double figures.

Five of Chennai's seven bowlers took wickets. Karn Sharma and Dwayne Bravo took two 2 wickets each while Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur shared a wicket each.

Watson scored 42 off 38 balls while Rayudu scored 41 off 34 balls.Curran scored 31 runs in the opening while skipper Dhoni scored 21 runs. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 25 runs.

Sandeep Sharma, Khalil Ahmed and T Natarajan of Hyderabad took two wickets each.
