Srilanka U23 defeated Nepal by 6 wickets in the first cricket match of the ongoing South Asian Games (SAG) at Kirtipur. Srilanka chased down a target of 173 runs from 19.1 overs with 6 wickets in hand.
Srilanka won the toss and elected to field first. Nepal finished on 172/5 from their allotted 20 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee was the top scorer for Nepal. Airee scored unbeaten 72 runs off 44 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Pawan Sarraf made a 13 ball 22 with 2 fours and a six. Binod Bhandari and captain Gyanendra Malla scored 21 runs each for Nepal. Kamindu Mendis picked up 2 wickets for Srilanka while Duvindu Tilakaratne, Kavishka Anjula and Asitha Fernando chipped in with a wicket each.
Srilanka in reply got off to a good start with openers Nissanka and Fernando. The duo added 36 runs for the first wicket from 3 Overs before Nissanka was caught by Binod off Sompal Kami. Nissanka scored 30 runs from 12 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Fernando made a 42 ball 46 before being caught by Dipendra Airee off Pawan Sarraf. But Shammu Ashan was the star with the bat for Srilanka. Ashan blasted 4 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. He blasted 72 runs off 44 balls to guide his team to victory.
Pawan Sarraf picked up 2 wickets for Nepal while Sompal and Sushan Bhari shared a wicket each. Shammu Ashan was named Player of the Match for his match winning knock with the bat.
